Please note:  Returning students should try on their green polo, khaki shorts and marching shoes prior to registration in order to determine if they will be usable next school year.

Samples of polos, khaki shorts and marching shoes will be available at registration to try on to ensure correct fit.  New students (as well as returning students needing to update these items) will need to allow time during the registration process to try these items on.  *Anyone who orders items without trying them on will be required to pay the shipping costs incurred for returning any items(s) that do not fit, as well as the cost to have the new items shipped.

A minimum down payment of $175 will be due at registration; however, some items are eligible for a 10% discount if your total fees are paid in full at registration (see highlighted area of attached form).  Acceptable forms of payment are CHECK or CASH.  Separate payment required for optional items.

May 16, 2008

Dear Parents and Band Members:

This letter is difficult to compose, but I am writing it to officially inform you of my intent to retire, effective June 30, 2008.  I plan to pursue my PhD in Education and devote more time to my real estate business.  My friends and coworkers know that my long term plan has been to retire after the 2015-2016 school year.   However, there have been some significant developments in the last month which have caused me to alter those plans.

  • I have been accepted into the PhD program at Walden University.  My goal has been to identify more effective methods for schools to use in developing responsible young people.  This degree program will influence and guide my research, which should help me reach that goal.
  • The State of Texas granted a certificate of formation for my new LLC.  I have been renovating houses for many years, but I now have the business structure in place to turn my hobby into a profitable venture for retirement.

I did not decide to consider retiring until both the business and continuing education opportunities developed at almost the same time last month.  I can complete the degree in a little over 3 years if I am not maintaining my schedule as a band director.

The band program will continue to be successful in the years ahead because that is what the students want and it is what the community expects.   As part of our plan for improvement, we have made a number of exciting changes for the fall.  These plans include a new style of music, a new arranger, a new drill writer and a fresh, custom designed marching uniform.  This will be one of the most exciting marching seasons in the band’s history!

My nine years at Birdville High School have been remarkable and I am proud to have been your director.  The band program has enjoyed more successes than we could have imagined back in 1999.  The band has provided a “second family” in which many of our students have developed great friendships.  Thank you for everything you have done to make this activity something truly meaningful.  I will always have a special place in my heart for each of you.

Sincerely,

Brian Gibbs
