Happy Sunday Mighty Hawk Band!
We had an absolutely wonderful first week of August Camp. The weather was amazing, the students worked so hard, and we ended the week 100% on target accomplishing everything that we set out to accomplish for week number one. We were able to put both the 2021 Spirit Show on the field, as well as the first movement of the Varsity production, “The Ruins”. We even got to use the main “Temple” Prop for the evening rehearsal which really started to bring the show to life. The week concluded with a great turn out at our annual “Dogs ‘n Dogs Picnic” at Chisholm park in Hurst and was a lot of fun getting to socialize with everyone and meet their pups. The staff walked away from the week absolutely exhausted, but felt so proud of everyone’s efforts (kids, parents, and staff).
We’re looking forward to a great week number #2 of Band Camp with our evening blocks of varsity rehearsals, our annual Fan Pledge Fundraiser and starting to put Mvt. 2 on the field.

August Camp Survival Tips
Student Drop Off and Pick-Up – Please remember to drop off and pick up your kiddos at the front entrance to BHS (off of Mid Cities Blvd). For traffic safety please do not drive them to the practice field or pick them up at the practice field. Upperclassmen that are driving to rehearsal, please remember that you must park in the student parking lot (not horseshoe parking lot).
Health / Heat Safety – Everyone loves summer, but without precaution, our rigorous activities, the sunshine, and heat can get the best of us. We won’t be outside for the entirety of our rehearsal days, but enough to impact your health if you’re not prepared. Failure to hydrate and eat/drink enough will impact your health negatively, often resulting in exhaustion, headache, and nausea. Avoiding heavy greasy foods, milk or dairy products.
Drink more than you usually do and drink primarily water. Water should be the vast majority of your liquid intake during August Camp, and not just during rehearsal times but around the clock, weekends included. Juices and Gatorade / Powerade are fine but are not substitutes for actual water. Avoid caffeinated, sugary, and energy drinks like tea, soda, Red Bull, etc. Be sure to bring a one gallon supply of iced water to all rehearsals and fill up your container during your lunch break.
Other ways to beat the heat- Wear light colors or white t-shirts and loose fitting clothing. Moisture-wicking garments are optimal. Wear comfortable athletic shoes and moisture-reducing socks. The cooler & drier your feet, the cooler and more comfortable you’ll be. Remember, flip flops and sandals will not work since we will be running and working out. Wear a hat and sunglasses to keep the sun out of your eyes and off of your cheeks, nose, and ears. Apply / re-apply sunscreen prior to outdoors rehearsal blocks.
